Foster and kinship carers play a vital role in supporting children and young people who cannot live safely with their families.
To help carers feel confident, prepared, and supported, the Queensland Government offers a range of training opportunities—from foundational modules to ongoing learning tailored to individual needs.
Why Training Matters
Training helps carers to:
- Understand trauma and its impact on children
- Build skills in communication, behaviour support, and cultural safety
- Navigate the child protection system
- Avoid burnout and maintain wellbeing
- Connect with other carers and support networks
Whether you’re new to caring or have years of experience, training is designed to meet you where you are.

3. Continuous Learning
Carers can access ongoing training through:
- Foster and Kinship Care Agencies

4. Water Safety Awareness
All carers are encouraged to complete water safety training, regardless of whether their home has a pool or access to water.
This ensures children’s safety in all environments.
Support for Kinship Carers
While foster carers are required to complete formal training, kinship carers are strongly encouraged to participate.
Training is available free of charge, and support workers can help tailor learning plans to each carer’s situation.
